WANG MUST GO!!!!!!

I am utterly speechless at the moment.  I cannot believe we lost 22 to 4!  After yeasterday’s 6-5 win, I thought we were back on track.  I guess we are not.

When you give up 14 runs in one running, you know there is something wrong with your team.  This bullpen is arguably worse than the Mets’ pen last year.  This pen is always blowing leads, or, making close games out of reach.  Marte sucks, Veras sucks, that no name rookie, Clagget? sucks.  The whole team needs help.  Wang must go NOW!!!  He has a 35.00 ERA after 3 STARTS!!!!!!  That is terrible.  He is just lobbing batting practice out there.  Asdrubal Cabrera hit a grand slam for crying out loud!!  It was the 7th inning Thursday, and 9 runs is bad.  But 14 runs in the 2nd today, that is awful.  This is a disgrace to the Yankee organization.  I don’t see how you can’t even be COMPETATIVE in a game.  This is awful, and changes must be made NOW.

NOTES: The Yankees dropped to 6-6, Cleveland improved to 4-8… Burnett (2-0), our stopper, goes tomorrow against former Yank great Carl Pavano (0-2).  Go Yanks!!

Bullpen Blows Up

The pen blew up today.

In our home opener, Sabathia pitched pretty well, 5.2 innings of 1 run ball.  The walks probably did him in.  Overall, he looked pretty good.  He took a no decision, as the Indians beat the Yankees, 10-2.  Cliff Lee got the win for Cleveland.  He pitched well, too.  The Yankees could barely get anything going.  Posada went yard for the Yanks first regular season HR, tying it up at 1.  But, the bullpen imploded in the 7th.  The Tribe crossed the plate 9 times, the big blow a grand slam by Sizemore.  Jose Veras took the loss.  Veras has been awful, posting a 13.50 ERA so far.  The only reliable guy we have is Mo.  The pen is our latest wekness.  We have to fix it fast.  The offense also must find consistency.  It has been pretty inconsistent so far this year.  We need to get on track tomorrow.

# 31 Ian Kennedy

Most of you are probably wondering why I am posting about Ian Kennedy.  Kennedy has been pretty awful in his time in New York.  but, since I am # 31 on the latest Leaders List, I will dedicate this post to Ian Kennedy, even if he is in AAA.

Ian Kennedy was born on December 19, 1984 in Huntington Beach, CA.  He is 6′ 0″ and weighs 190 pounds.  He throws a fastball, changeup, slider and knuclke curve.

Kennedy attended La Quinta HS in Westminster, CA.  In his junior year, he has an 0.38 ERA with 13 wins and 168 K’s.  He also batted .373 with 7 HRs and 31 RBIs.  He was Garden Grove player of the year.

In college, Kennedy pitched for USC, where Mickey Mantle attended college as well.  In 2005, his senior year, he was nakmed a pre-season All-American.  He recorede 158 K’s in his senior year, fourth in school history.

Kennedy had lots of success in the minors.  He quickly made it to AAA Scranton, where he went 1-1 with a 2.08 ERA.

In the Majors, it has been mostly a struggle for Kennedy.  He won his MLB debut on September 1, 2007 against TB.  He allowed 3 runs, 1 earned, in 7 innings.  He had 6 strikeouts.  Kennedy struggled in 2008.  In one start against the Angels, after being recalled from Scranton, he allowed 5 runs in 2 innings.  Soon after, he was optioned back to Scranton.  He hasn’t been good since.  He did not impress in camp, and he is in Scranton now.  Kennedy is married to his college sweet heart, Allison Jaskowiak.  I hope Ian Kennedy figures it out soon.  He has a ton of talent and potential, and I would hate to see it go to waste.

The Captain Comes Through Again

There is a reason why so many people call Derek Jeter “Captain Clutch.”

He showed us why tonight.

Jeter doubled and scored the game tying run in the eighth, and singled home the winning run in the top of the ninth, as the Yankees came back to defeat the Rays, 4-3.  With the win, the Yanks took 2 of 3 from Tampa Bay.  They finished the road trip 5-4.  I’ll take that, it’s early in the year.  The game was delayed because of light fixture problems.  Rays 3B Evan Longoria missed the game beacuse of a death in the family.  My condolences go out to the Longoria family.  The Rays took a 2-0 in the third.  BJ Upton and Carl Crawford both doubled home runs.  Robinson Cano hit a two run bomb to center in the fourth, tying it up.  In the bottom of the frame, Carlos Pena drilled one out.  In the eighth, Johnny Damon tyed it up, doubling home Jeter.  Jeter singled home the winning run in the ninth, after Cody Ransom doubled.  Andy Pettitte pitched well, but Brian Bruney, 1-0, got the win.  Rivera closed it out, his second in as many chances.  Troy Percival took the loss for TB.  Xavier Nady is going to the DL.  He felt sharp pain in his shoulder while making a throw.  He could be out for awhile.  It was a great win, and I can’t wait for the home opener tomorrow!

NOTES: The Yankees impoved to 5-4, the Rays dropped to 4-5… With Nady’s injury, no one will have to worry about playing time for Swisher…  I hope that Nady makes a quick recovery, he is a big asset to us…  Tomorrow’s starters are CC Sabathia, 1-1, and Cliff Lee, 0-2.  The game time is 1:05PM…

Go Yankees!

How Do You Spell Stopper: B-U-R-N-E-T-T

AJ Burnett came to the rescue again.

After another disasterous outing by Chien-Ming Wang, the Yankees 82.5 million dollar investment came up big.  Again.

In a spectacular performance, Burnett pitched 6 innings on no-hit ball, until allowing a leadoff single to Carl Crawford in the 7th.  The Yankees played very well tonight, as they defeated the Rays, 7-2, to end a two game losing streak.  The Yanks loaded the bases in the 1st, but only got 1 run, a Posada sac fly off Matt Garza.  Burnett walked Pat Burrell in the 2nd, the only Tampa Bay baserunner until the 7th.  Nick Swisher (who did not pitch!) homered in the 4th.  He is absolutely on fire, as tonights HR was his 4th.  Burnett continued to dominate, easily dispatching the Rays’ hitters.  He finished the game with 9  strikeouts over 8 innings.  But, after Crawford’s leadoff single in the 7th, Burnett lost control of the game.  Longoria singled, then Pena singled home Crawfoed.  Burrell hit a sac fly, tie game at 2.  In the 8th, the Yankees regained the lead.  Gardner doubled to lead off, and scored on a long sac fly to left by Teixeira.  The Yanks hammered Dan Wheeler in the 9th.  Gardner hit a ground rule RBI double to center, and then Derek Jeter hammered a 3 run shot to right-center, his 2nd of the year.  Brian Bruney finished off TB in the 9th.  AJ Burnett came up big for Wang again.  Without these great performances by AJ, we could be in last place.  Burnett is money.

NOTES: The Yankees improved to 4-4, the Rays dropped to the same record…  Burnett threw a no-hitter in 1998 for thr Marlins against the Rockies… Burnett improved to 2-0, Garza dropped to 1-1… A-Rod was at the game again… Tomorrow’s game starts @ 4:08PM, Andy Pettitte, 1-0, takes on Andy Sonnanstine, 0-1…

My 100th Post!

This is my 100th post!  I have been blogging since February 24, 2009!  That is almost 2 months.  I found out about MLBlogs when I was one the Yankees website one day.  It said “Blog About the Yankees.”  I thought it looked cool so I checked it out.  I like blogging a lot, it is very fun.  Thank you to all who read my blog.  I appreciate it.

OK, here is today’s question:
What baseball holiday is tomorrow?

Good luck!

Wang Rocked Again, Yanks Clobbered 15 To 5

What is up with Chien-Ming Wang?

The guy is terrible now.  He goes out and lasts 1 inning!  He gave up 6 hits and 8 runs!!!  We lose 15-5!!!!  What a debacle!  Wang looks like he has just lost it.  As I wrote in a previous post, Wang is one of the Major’s winningest pitchers over the last couple of years.  He won 19 games in 2006 and 2007.  But, he is terrible this year.  He has a 28.93 ERA in 2 games this year!  He looks as if he has lost it.  The sinker is up in the zone, and the batters wait for it.  TB bashed 3 homers today: Pena had a grand slam, Burrell hit his first as a Ray, and JASON BARTLETT hit a homer.  Jason Bartlett!!  He hit like 2 last year!  Wang has given up homers to Jason Bartlett and Caesar Izturis this year.  He might be in SWB soon if he doesn’t make changes.  The Yanks didn’t do much offensively today.  Nady was robbed of an extra base hit by a great catch by Upton.  I have to agree with Scott here, Cody Ransom must go.  He has 2 hits.  He’s way overmatched at the plate.  So is Hideki.  They had both find the bench soon.  Burnett (again) must be the stopper and win tomorrow.

NOTES: Wang pitched worse than he did in Baltimore.  I did not think that was possible…  Jason Bartlett has hit 2 HRs this year, he hit 1 last year…  Nick Swisher pitched for the Yankees today.  In 1 inning, he gave up 1 hit, 1 walk, 0 runs and struck out Gabe Kapler…  The Yanks dropped to 3-4, the Rays improved to 4-3…  Wang fell to 0-2, Kazmir improved to 2-0…  Tomorrows starters are AJ Burnett, 1-0 vs. Matt Garza, 1-0.  The game starts @ 7:08PM.

Today In Baseball

I didn’t have any time to post yesterday.  I went to Mass at 10:30, then went to Long Island to celebrate Easter with my relatives. (It’s better spending time with Mets fans than with Red Sox fans!  I usually go to New Hampshire for Easter, but my other cousins were in the Carribean).  The LIE (Long Island Expressway) was jammed as usual.  My brothers, who are Met fans, wanted to see Citi Field but that was out of the way because of all the traffic.  But, going through Manhattan was nice, it got me in the mood for the home opener against Cleveland on Thursday!  I had a great Easter and hope everyone else did as well.

Harr Kalas passed away today.  He was 73.  Harry was a great announcer for the Phillies.  He was a staple of Phillies baseball.  He was adored by the fans, and I wish he announced for us.  I really can’t stand Michael Kay!  Today was a sad day for all fans.  I wish the Kalas family my condolences.

The Yankees took a tough loss yesterday in KC.  We lost 6-4.  Joba pitched great, going 5 innings along with 5 K’s but the Yankees made a couple of errors as Chamberlain gave up 3 runs, but only 1 was earned.  Phil Coke struggled again, taking the loss after giving up 3 hits and 2 runs in only 1/3 of an inning!  Coke’s ERA is 13.50!  I think Coke was solid last year, and he had a good spring.  But giving up a homer to the light hitting Ceaser Izturis in Baltimore, and getting knocked around by the Royals isn’t too encouraging.  He might find himself in Scranton soon.  Gil Meche went 7 innings for KC, giving up 4 runs while striking out 6.  Juan Cruz got the win, though.  John buck went deep for Kansas City.  The Yankee offense struggled, scoring 4 runs but only 1 was scored on an actual hit, a Nady RBI double.

The Yankees travel to St. Petersburg to take on the Rays for a 3 game set before heading home to open up the Stadium on Thursday.  Chien-Ming Wang will get the start, he will be opposed by Scott Kazmir.  Wang will look to rebound on his awful performance in Baltimore.  The game starts @ 7:08PM.  It is Tampa Bay’s home opener.
